Counsel and Law Professor
Venus Griffith-Trunnel has a lot on her plate! She is counsel at an Irvine, California-based firm. She is also a professor at California State University, Long Beach where she teaches a course in business law with a focus on intellectual property. Her trademark and intellectual property law knowledge is extensive – Venus began her career as a USPTO Trademark Examiner after receiving her LLM in intellectual property.
Venus was first introduced to Alt Legal after meeting Alt Legal CEO Nehal Madhani at INTA. “Nehal was just getting started with the platform and was so encouraging and helpful.” Right away, Venus signed up for Alt Legal to manage her trademark matters. Venus has been using Alt Legal for many years now and is very happy with the software, technology, and customer service.
“Alt Legal is a great, cost-effective tool to use in your trademark practice. I like that it’s consistent and accurate.”
For Venus, what stands out about Alt Legal is that it is so easy to use and so cost-effective. She also enjoys Alt Legal’s advanced automation and appreciates that Alt Legal clears deadlines automatically. “Alt Legal has helped significantly with keeping track of deadlines. Sometimes when calendaring items into Outlook things can slip through the cracks. Alt Legal eliminates that problem.” Venus also notes that Alt Legal was particularly helpful when initiating flexible office action deadlines pursuant to the Trademark Modernization Act, “The new 3-month office action deadline is especially challenging so I appreciate that Alt Legal calendars these deadlines automatically for me.”
Venus has also taken advantage of Alt Legal’s unlimited user access by providing clients with read-only access to their dockets. “Clients appreciate having access to the docket and it helps them find answers to their questions. Of course, I am happy to field follow-up questions, but it helps eliminate a lot of back and forth.”
Additionally, Venus has used Alt Legal Trademark Protection to help identify potential conflicts, particularly, the §2(d) Trademark Watch tool which looks for citations in §2(d) likelihood of confusion office actions. “I think it’s a really good tool! I’ve gotten hits on citations I would have otherwise never known about.”
Another reason why Venus loves Alt Legal is that she’s had so many positive interactions with Alt Legal’s Customer Support team and other staff members. “The Alt Legal team is very supportive and helpful. They’re encouraging and you genuinely feel like you have a teammate in your practice. The Customer Support team and everyone I’ve interacted with has been really great and have always been very helpful.”
Beyond using Alt Legal for her trademark docketing, Venus is also an active member of the Alt Legal Community. She enjoys participating in Alt Legal Webinars and reading the I ♡ Trademarks Newsletter, Alt Legal’s weekly, pun-filled newsletter which provides IP and trademark law updates. “Alt Legal Webinars are awesome! I love the follow-up resources and the ability to chat openly with other practitioners during webinars. I also love the weekly newsletter. I always peruse them to see what issues I need to read up on.”
