INTAactions!

Alt Legal is proud to support Brand Action for Ukraine, a fundraising event at INTA to help support Ukraine. Your $95 donation gets you entry, the company of some amazing people, and the warm, fuzzy feeling of having helped some people who really need it.

INTA has created an online job bank for Ukrainian IP lawyers and paralegals.

Striking Similarities

The strategy of suing the USPTO over its renewal of the HAVANA CLUB trademark did not reverse the decision for Bacardi.

The Girl Scouts don’t have exclusive rights to “scouting” and cannot prevent the BSA from using the term. I guess that’s how the cookie crumbles.

UFO Magazine is suing Showtime because of the network’s UFO docuseries. The Magazine has a trademark for UFO in class 41.

Damages

The Federal Circuit has vacated the awarded damages in a patent infringement case against Roche and has remanded the case back for a new damages trial.

Stone Brewing has been awarded $56 million in damages in a trademark infringement case against MillerCoors.

Ed Sheeran, who has been found not to have infringed another artist’s song, says that the prevalence of such suits are “really damaging to the songwriting industry.”

Professional Concerns

If you join the IP team at J.Crew, you can maybe work on TMs at the USPTO and do other tasks TBD.

Is your current job making sirens go off in your head? Then consider serving as patent counsel for Starbucks.

The need for a great job is (NBC) Universal, so maybe you should be an IP paralegal for the media company.

Has some recent action tipped the Scale at your current job? Consider working as an IP associate for this firm. It’s the weigh to go. Man, I’m really pounding out the puns today, huh?

Have an open role on your team? Send a link to your job listing to [email protected], and we’ll publish it in our next newsletter.

Odds and Ends

It’s official: the Senate has finally confirmed someone to fill the Vidal role of USPTO Director.
